Series Final for Tasmania
NSSS Media Release
Having hosted the National Super Sedan Series for the first time last season, Tasmania has been allocated the final two rounds of the 2012/2013 NSSS Championship, with three consecutive nights of competition slated for the island. With both the current NSSS titleholder in Brad Smith and Australian Super Sedan champion Jarred Harper based in Tasmania, it is fitting that the state has been selected to host the final rounds of the 2012/2013 campaign, enabling both drivers to take on Australia’s best in front of their home crowd.
Carrick Speedway will host round 9 of the series on Friday, January 25, with Hobart Speedway allocated the series Grand Final over two nights on January 26 and 27. Carrick staged two events last season with great success, while Hobart joins the series for the first time. The Hobart event will feature the same exciting new format that will also be utilised at the series opener in Toowoomba in December, providing plenty of action for spectators with preliminary feature races on Saturday night and 50-lap main event on Sunday evening.
“Is there a shift of Super Sedan dominance from Queensland to Tasmania?” asks National Super Sedan Series Manager Tony Parkinson. “With both the champions from Tasmania I am sure the other teams are going to be striving to get the titles out of Tasmania. The 2012/2013 schedule is going to be a real test for the teams over five weekends of racing, with at least two nights of racing each weekend”, he added, confirming that “this schedule is already drawing strong interest from teams and, in the near future, we hope to announce the entry of a high profile team from way out west.”
The initial NSSS foray into Tasmania last season drew strong support from local competitors, almost all of whom took part in one or more of the events. The 2012/2013 Tasmanian events are again expected to feature all of the home state stars in action against the contracted contenders. Of course, the following weekend will see drivers contest the prestigious Apple Isle Grand Prix at Latrobe Speedway to conclude what is shaping as two fabulous weeks of elite Super Sedan competition.
